Aug. 31, 2020
Every day over 45 children in the United States are diagnosed with cancer. The challenges they face are astounding, especially as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, we hear so often about children who face cancer with grace, positivity, and bravery. During the month of September, we have an opportunity to support a local family whose daughter embodies this fighting spirit while battling a rare form of brain cancer. Join us in supporting Melanie Walsh and her family as well as the work of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital to commemorate Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Melanie Walsh’s Story
April 3, 2020 during the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, Melanie was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, Medulloblastoma. She is currently receiving the highly specialized care from the neuro-oncology team at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Every day she courageously fights to return to the life she loves filled with dance, lacrosse, biking, playing with friends, crafting and cooking.
Melanie’s parents believe that God has a bigger plan for Melanie and her cancer journey. “Her compassion is on fire. She worries about all the other children in clinic. Melanie is so special; many would describe her as caring and compassionate. One Nurse Practitioner actually recalled meeting Melanie just after her initial brain surgery, and she was more worried about another child in the unit, than herself.”
As you can imagine, the costs of battling cancer during this difficult time can be daunting. During September we invite you to join us in supporting Melanie and her parents by donating much-needed funds at the Kiosk at the Lake Hopatcong Golf Club. Every dollar donated will go far in supporting this brave family as they fight this horrible disease.
This fundraiser is a part of the Lake Hopatcong Golf Club Fall Classic Fundraiser benefiting childhood cancer. During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month $5 of every greens fee will be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in their fight to treat and cure childhood cancer.
